Getting Started with Godforge

Your complete beginner’s roadmap to collecting heroes, building teams, and conquering the World.

What is Godforge?

Godforge is a forthcoming cross-platform hero collector RPG developed by FATELESS Games. It will be available on mobile (iOS/Android) and PC/Mac, the game puts you in command of gods and legends from mythologies around the world such as Norse, Greek, Egyptian, Aztec, Chinese, Japanese, Slavic, Arthurian, and Mesopotamian. You’ll collect heroes, equip them with powerful weapons and armor, and lead strategic turn-based teams through PvE and PvP content.

If you’ve played games like Raid: Shadow Legends or Summoners War, Godforge will feel familiar in structure but brings its own unique systems, particularly around Divinity, Imprints, and Faction-specific weapons.

The Core Gameplay Loop

At its heart, Godforge follows a satisfying cycle:

CollectBuildBattleProgressRepeat

  1. Collect Heroes – Through summoning (using in-game resources), you’ll acquire heroes of varying rarities: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary. Each hero belongs to a Faction, has an Affinity, an Archetype (role), and an Alignment. Don’t worry about memorizing all of this now, we’ll break each one down below and in dedicated guides.
  2. Build Your Heroes – Level them up, promote them with spirits or duplicates, ascend them to unlock passive abilities, equip armor sets for stat bonuses, and assign weapons with imprinted abilities. The gear and progression systems have real depth, but early on you can focus on leveling and equipping whatever you find.
  3. Battle – Godforge uses turn-based combat where speed and turn meter determine who acts first. You’ll manage abilities, time your Ultimates (fueled by a resource called Divinity), and exploit affinity advantages to gain the upper hand.
  4. Progress – Push deeper into Caverns stages, unlock new game modes, farm better gear, and take on increasingly difficult bosses. Each stage you clear rewards you with gear, resources, and eventually access to endgame content.

Key Concepts You Need to Know

These are the building blocks of everything in Godforge. You don’t need to master them all on day one, but understanding what they are will help make everything else click.

Factions

Every hero belongs to one of nine Factions, each inspired by a real-world mythology:

BannerFactionMythologyExample Heroes
Olympus BannerOlympusGreekZeus, Athena, Hercules
Asgardian BannerAsgardNorseThor, Odin, Loki
Aaru BannerAaruEgyptianAnubis, Ra, Isis
Avalon BannerAvalonArthurianKing Arthur, Mordred, Viviane
Omeyocan BannerOmeyocanAztec/MayanQuetzalcoatl, Xolotl, Ixchel

Izumo BannerIzumoJapaneseAmaterasu, Izanagi, Ryujin
Vyraj BannerVyrajSlavicBaba Yaga, Veles, Perun
Ekur BannerEkurMesopotamianShamash, Gilgamesh, Nanaya

Factions may matter because each has its own faction-specific weapons (crafted at the Forge of Wayland?), some Heroes have abilities based on using like faction Heroes, and future game systems may introduce faction-based events, bonuses, and team requirements.

Affinities

Affinities follow a rock-paper-scissors triangle that affects your hit chance and damage:

  • Strength beats Wisdom
  • Wisdom beats Cunning
  • Cunning beats Strength
  • Eternal is neutral (slight advantage, no disadvantage)

When you have affinity advantage, there’s a chance for a Strong Hit (+30% damage). With a disadvantage, you risk a Weak Hit (reduced damage, no crits, can’t place debuffs). Building a team with mixed affinities helps you handle a wider range of enemies.

Archetypes (Hero Roles)

Every hero has one of five Archetypes that defines their role in your team:

ArchetypeRoleWhat They Do
DefenderTankProtects allies with shields, damage reduction, and intercepts. High HP and Defense.
InvokerSupport/HealerHeals, buffs, and manipulates turn meter. Keeps your team moving and alive.
BrawlerBruiserSelf-sustaining fighters who trade health for power. Durable damage dealers.
DisruptorControllerApplies debuffs, disables, and manipulates enemy turn order. Crowd control specialists.
SlayerDPSPure offensive output. High Attack, lower survivability. They need protection but hit hard.

A well-rounded team typically includes at least one Defender or Brawler to absorb hits, an Invoker to keep the team healthy, and damage dealers (Slayers or Disruptors) to clear enemies.

Alignment

Heroes are either Order or Chaos aligned. This is tied to lore and narrative, and may affect future event bonuses, team synergies, and game modes. For now, it’s good to be aware of but isn’t a primary team-building concern. The Tower of Strife uses alignment.

Rarity

Heroes come in five rarity tiers:

  • Common (1-star base)
  • Uncommon (2-star base)
  • Rare (3-star base)
  • Epic (4-star base)
  • Legendary (5-star base)

Higher rarity generally means stronger base stats and more complex ability kits, but don’t overlook lower-rarity heroes! Many Rares have valuable niches, especially early in progression.

Understanding Combat

Godforge battles are turn-based, but there’s more to it than just pressing buttons in order.

Turn Meter and Speed

Every hero has a Turn Meter that fills based on their Speed stat. When it’s full, that hero takes their turn. Faster heroes act more often. Speed is one of the most important stats in the game, especially for Invokers and Disruptors who need to act before the enemy.

Divinity and Ultimates

Each hero has a Basic ability, a Core ability, and an Ultimate ability. Ultimates are powered by Divinity, a resource that builds during combat. The stat Initiative accelerates Divinity gain you can think of it like Speed but specifically for getting your ultimate ready faster. Timing your ultimate for the right moment (a wave transition, a boss phase, or after stacking buffs) is a key skill.

Abilities and Scaling

Hero abilities scale from different stats depending on the hero – some scale from Attack, others from HP, and some from a mix. Upgrading abilities with Scrolls and Tomes is important, but upgrades are distributed randomly across a hero’s skills, so patience is needed.

Leaders Auras

Before entering battle, you choose an Aura for your team which grants a passive bonus like increased Attack, Speed, or Resistance. Early on, raw Attack or Speed auras are typically most effective. As you push harder content, defensive auras like Resistance become more valuable.

Your Gear: Armor, Weapons, and Imprints

Gearing your heroes is where a lot of the depth lies. There are three gear systems to understand:

Armor Sets

Heroes equip six pieces of armor (Helmet, Chest, Shoulders, Gauntlets, Legs, Boots). Armor comes with main stats, substats, and can belong to Sets that grant bonuses when you equip enough matching pieces.

Armor has two quality dimensions:

  • Rarity (color) determines the number of substats i.e. Legendary gear always has four substats, Epic has three, and so on.
  • Quality (Roman numerals I–V) determines the strength of main stats and substat rolls. A high-quality Rare piece can sometimes outperform a low-quality Legendary. In Raid or Summoners War this is similar to 1 Star, 2 Star, etc.

Early game tip: Focus on raw stats over set bonuses. A piece with great substats is more valuable than forcing a set.

Armor also has armor types (I think that they are: silk, robes, leather, chain, plate). Each armor type is paired with an Archetype, and there will be benefits for wearing appropriate pieces. Additionally appropriate Armor pieces can be attuned to a specific Hero. These features were not active in the Alpha and little is currently know about this part of the game.

Weapons

We believe that each Faction has its own weapon that can be crafted at the Forge of Wayland. Weapons provide a passive bonus unique to their type. For example, some increase damage to targets under certain debuffs, while others boost healing or grant Divinity. Like Heroes, weapons can be ranked up and improved. They can also be enchanted with an Imprint.

In the Alpha Weapons dropped from Cavern stages ending in 8 (Stage 8, 18, 28, 38, etc.) and are upgraded with Godsteel, which dropped from stages ending in 9. It is currently unclear how players will attain weapons in game other than crafting them at launch of Early Access.

Imprints

This is one of Godforge’s most unique systems. You can sacrifice a hero you don’t need at the Anvil of Creation to extract their passive ability as an Imprint. That Imprint can then be placed on a weapon, granting the weapon’s wielder a second passive ability.

This means every hero, even duplicates or heroes you won’t use, has potential value as an Imprint. Planning which passives to imprint onto which weapons will be a key part of endgame optimization for both PVE and PVP.

Hero Progression

Growing your heroes involves several systems:

Leveling

Heroes gain experience from battles. Godforge uses an overflow XP system so excess experience doesn’t go to waste. Instead, it’s stored in a vial that you can use later, so you never need to bring weak “food” heroes into battle.

Promotion

Promoting a hero increases their star level, which boosts stats. Promotion requires Spirits (obtained by unbinding heroes you don’t need), or using unwanted heroes.

Early game tip: In Alpha it was ALWAYS better to Unbind than it was to use a hero for this. Why? Unbinding gets you a spirit, and some XP that can be used to level your Heroes.

Ascension

Ascending a hero requires Ascension Stones (In Alpha these dropped from Cavern stages ending in 5). Each affinity has its own stone type, and there are different qualities of them. These will be gained from specific Dungeons for each Affinity.

Eternal → Annwn
Cunning → Forest Glade of Kitsune
Wisdom → Guan Yu’s Lotus Temple
Strength → Shrine of Hercules

Awakening

Awakening requires duplicate heroes or imprints and can fundamentally change how a hero works. Some awakenings add new effects to abilities, remove stat requirements (like no longer needing Accuracy), or grant Initiative bonuses. Check each hero’s awakening path before investing heavily.

Game Modes

Godforge offers several ways to play:

Arena (PvP)

Compete against other players’ teams. PvP requires a different mindset than PvE. Speed, burst damage, and crowd control become much more important.

Dungeons

Targeted farming areas for specific resources and gear sets.

Campaigns

Story-driven content that takes you through the lore of the realms.

Bosses

Major endgame encounters like Au Puch, Chronos, Fafnir (the dragon), the Golden Guardian, and Gwrach y Rhibyn will test your team-building and mechanic knowledge to the limit.

Status Effects: Buffs, Debuffs, and Disables

Combat in Godforge revolves heavily around status effects. There are three categories:

  • Buffs – Positive effects on your heroes (Attack Up, Defense Up, Shield, Radiance, Ward, etc.)
  • Debuffs – Negative effects on enemies (Bleed, Blaze, Acid, Attack Down, Defense Down, etc.)
  • Disables – Crowd control effects that restrict actions (Stun, Freeze, Confuse, Sleep, etc.)

Understanding which effects your heroes apply and which effects counter specific enemies is essential for pushing harder content. The stat Resistance (RES) reduces the chance of having debuffs and disables land on your heroes, while Accuracy (ACC) improves your chance to land them on enemies.

Quick-Start Tips for New Players

Here are some practical tips to help you hit the ground running:

Don’t ignore lower-rarity heroes. Many Rare heroes have strong niches, great imprints, or are required for specific content.

Push Campaigns as far as you can. Early progression unlocks better farming stages, more resources, and access to the gear and materials you need. Don’t over-farm early stages when you could be pushing forward.

Complete stage Challenges. The bonus rewards from challenges add up significantly and contribute to endgame scoring. (Note: This is an assumption that Campaign will have stage Challenges…)

Speed and Initiative matter. Going first in battle is a massive advantage. Gear your key heroes (especially Invokers and Disruptors) with Speed and Initiative substats. Turn order of your Heroes also matters. Decide what order you want your team members to go and speed tune them for that order.

Play manually for hard content. Auto-battle is fine for farming, but timing your ultimates and abilities manually during tough stages and boss fights makes a huge difference.

Save duplicates – don’t feed everything. Duplicates are needed for awakening and can be sacrificed for valuable imprints. Think before you unbind.

Join the community. The Godforge Discord and community content creators are invaluable resources for strategy, tier lists, and staying up to date on game changes.

During the Alpha I utilized the following logic:

AWAKEN (if you are going to use) → EXTRACT (if you want the imprint) → UNBIND (for the Spirit and XP)
